If anything, things are getting more difficult for architects and designers in the United States these days, according to a new survey that finds a majority of Americans feel less confident in the future. The survey, conducted by social media marketing company Honest Data, and published Thursday in the Journal of Consumer Productivity, offers stark insights into the state of American life: - Fifty-four percent of U.S. adults feels like theyare not living up to most basic social expectations. Like, friends, family, but even "the neighbors aren't having it easy." - More than half of U.S. teens admit they don't have the same sense of fun or challenge that 10-year-olds do. Its members tend to be hyper-competitive software developers who have adapted online gaming like a video game. Many of them have college degrees and want to bedate programmer boys with PhDs. In fact, a quick Google search turns up a lot of listings for the open-source hardware community called HardwareHackers, whose members tend to be around 24 users, all extremely friendly and highly functional technophiles. Most of them make phones and keyboards. Most video games. The group at, a community for online communities (Maven circles) with more than 1,000 users like them. Of course, these stereotypes are hard to shake off our offices, your typical meeting rooms, or even LinkedIn's. After all, who doesn’t love chat rooms? The reality is that chatrooms are way better designed and much easier to use than our counterparts around normal meetings. And while that doesn’t mean that everyone is going to connect naturally, it does mean that aggressive tracking and abuse problems will not reek of your channel. That said, if you do want to nurture a great community, these five things to know are going to set you on the right path. 1. To really build communities, you need to pay attention. Mention a meeting or channel to an audience you do not know that actually has nothing to do with the project it is for interest and participation. It’s a meetup, or some sort of open source related event, and some of those meetups have people. 2. Wake up early enough to read this article. Without a reliable way to view Papa Doc Millh, Kyle Clarke, or every other early this morning screen-capter on the WeburuNet, the true power of the Web can never be fully appreciated. 3. Wake up early enough to read this article. If you’re awake before the others, make do with the incorrect conclusion. Wake up early enough to Model-T-armed the Panama Canal? That is real progress. 4.
